Songs For The Movement: At The Seams

The Songs for the Movement section of N.A.H. houses selected protest songs for social justice from the past and the present.

Today’s entry in Songs for the Movement is “At The Seams”, by Kimya Dawson. (Lyrics and video)

Song Description:

“Very rough version of a new song that I wanted to just share with a few friends until I got a better recording and practiced some more, because I don’t play piano but it’s not a guitar song. I realized that this is how it is meant to be though.

Sloppy and dark and raw and sad and mad. I spent 5 years writing it. It’s about messy messy things. All my love to the families and friends of the murdered and the many people fighting everyday for Black Lives and to end police brutality.”

I'm a Social Justice Educator and Aspiring Humanitarian who is interested in conflict resolution, improving intergroup relations, and building more equitable and inclusive communities. "Notes from an Aspiring Humanitarian" is my blog, where I write about issues of diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice. By exploring social identities through written word, film & video, and other forms of media, I hope to continue to expand and enrich conversations about social issues that face our society, and to find ways to take social action while encouraging others to do so as well in their own ways.
